I'm in the process of replacing my processor in my notebook. The chipset in my motherboard is a Intel 852gme, installed in my gateway notebook when purchased in 2001.

The processor icurrently installed is a Intel P4 socket 478 3.06 ghz, 533 fsb, 512kb l2 cache. I've been looking for processors that are compatible and I was wondering if I purchased a Intel P4 socket 478 3.06 ghz, 533 fsb, 1024kb l2 cache. Will that work with the motherboard?

The notebook is about 5 years old and was wondering if I could use a processor which has a larger l2 cache size.

Thanks for your help

You really wouldn't get much of a speed upgrade by just dubbling the cache. I wouldn't spend the time on it even if the processor is compatable with your motherboard.
