I have a new power supply with a 120mm fan sucking air out like crazy, an 80mm case fan doing the same, but I still have the same stock cpu cooler+heating. After playing a game for a while with the case closed it constantly heats up and goes through a cyclic like heating process in which 15 minutes later it ultimately shuts off. It hits 70 degrees C. I completely cleaning all dust out and used isoprol to clean the thermal paste off and then re-applied with new paste. I was wondering if i need a new heatsink and fan which may be able to cool it more of if there was just a problem. Any suggestions on which will be cool.

Do you have one or two case fans beside the PSU fan? What is the CPU temperture if you open the case and set up external fan to blow over the CPU's heatsink?

well...

#1 Is it farely new gear ?
#2 Is their a warranty?(if so .don't touch it go to "them")
#3 if not, check your motherboard for any signs of weak or blown capasitors.
#4 Did you observe the CPU when you had it out? Any signs of scortches?
#5 at this point if all is good...what CPU and Motherboard model ?
#6 and like asked above, what more specific fan & cooler do you have in there?
#7 ,Changing them, is not a bad thing if it came with the system and it's more then 6 months or + old .
#8 Emachines are a problem Very Happy I found that most MATX form factor PC Cases don't seem to have that more "open flow of air" that a regular (Midsize tower) or + have ! This could result in poor air circulation and eventualy trap heat inside the case and harm componates.

Does the External Fans really help? I DON'T have Air-conditioning , in my apartment, and, am wondering about what the SUMMER temperatures are going to do to my Skt.754 processor...especially if I OC'd it, AND, had some MINIMAL internal cooling.
I mention it being a 754, because I have noticed that all the 64-bit processor types of AMD have gone DOWN, relative to speed increase, in AMBIENT TEMP ALLOWANCE.
Would it be better, this summer, to shut down all my 64-bit machines, and, just use the LESS temperature - sensitive Skt. 462 32-bit machines?

Seriously considering Antartica OR the Other Artic, for my summer vacationing plans Wink

YES !
Putting one fan in the front, allowing cooler air to flow in. A second fan in the back, to help remove all that trapped hot air from the internal componates. These are indeed ,great improvement in PC maintenance and health.

The logic behind this is simple.Take a car for exemple, imagine the rad without a fan ! As long as you drive the car, airflow will cool off your engine. But, once stopped in heavy traffic , no car movement, equals no more airflow.Your engine is sure to overheat! So, the radfan is definately a must !

Thanks...Jd!
I will start buying and installing EXTRA fans, thru the case--->
What about idea of opening the case, and, putting a giant turbine fan next to it, blowing air into (and thru) the case?

Will that help , too ? I need to have the temp WAY down, on my Skt. 754, because I am going to try and RADICALLY upgrade the Video AND THEN, OC' it.

P.S. The "average" here, last summer, was 89 Degrees Farenhiet, for 2 monthes straight.

... o.0

I'm can't say for sure how the idea of an open case panel with a fan blasting at it would result in...

As far as overclocking things, I don't follow those methodes.I simply buy the Vid card needed for the job, hence adding a longer life to it Wink

Another helping tip, would be to check the cooler&fan system on the CPU.If you feel it ain't good enough, there's bigger, and better. Also, it is good to change the thermal paste on the CPU once a year ! (incase ppl in here didn't know that ! ) Why? Because, after a certain time the paste becomes caked and it's function becomes nul hence, resulting in poor CPU cooling !

Later,
JD
