I don't know what is the fastest processor for your computer. The fastest Athlon XP is 3200+, so, even if your computer supports it, upgrading to it doesn't make much sense as (a) you won't notice the difference (b) Athlon XP 3200+ is overpriced. You need to consider either replacing your motherboard with CPU and memory, or replacing the whole system. You may want to look at other options - maybe you don't need to replace the board and CPU, and, say, if you play a lot of games, then adding more memory and better video card will give you much more than upgrading your CPU.

A note :

Especialy if your a newbie at computers, DO NOT LISTEN to these ridiculous suggestions ! Overclocking is definately not recommended.

For those of you wondering why yet ...? If you can't answer that, it's probly because you don't have the knowledge you seem to define in your "expertise advice". The Emachine Tower is a MATX format. Does that tell you anything yet? Probly not.....Answer is: MATX format towers are known for lack of decipating heat rapidly! Therefor, augmenting your CPU Temp by doing an extrem thing like overclocking, will thus expend this rapid heat growth that's trapped within the case. Yeah, yeah, there's a pathetic fan in the back doing all the work...I know...But this ain't enough, believe me.In the long run, your chances of overcooking your chip is greater then normal.

But hey, why not listen to overclockers... Confused

Anyways, my advice, take it or not, would be to simplify your pc's life spend by getting an Athlon XP 3200+3 2333 MHz 512 KiB 333 MHz + a nice new compatible cooler to top it off with.

Keep in mind, thought, when considering this upgrade:

The Athlon XP 3200+ goes for $180ish Used.
The Core 2 Duo E6300 goes for $190 New.

Dont you think there is a bit of price gouging? everybody is in your boat.... Save your money, beat the crowd and get a new machine! If you know what you are doing, you can recycle your case, PS and drives and all you'd have to buy is a processor, RAM and mobo.

where in the world are you paying $180usd + for an AMD Athlon 3200+ ??? Shocked

Are u nuts ?

The last one I bought, and can still get at are only $105 USD...FFS !

Nothing wrong with a good 3200+ Barton CPU VS Intel E6300. It's all in preferences. Very Simple really ! GO Intel, or AMD. Not about what's better, about what the customer wants ! Duh !

Always about go Intel, Go Intel with you people !!! WTF ? I mean really !!!

What did the guy ask for in his topic anyways??? HUh ? He's talking about an upgrade for his board, Not a new freakin' overhaul !!!

I'm pretty sure he's bright enough to figure out for himself that if he wanted to say what upgrade he can get vs what OTHER completely different PC could he get, he would have stated so....
