I recently got hired working in the biotech field for a small firm called Phylogeny http://www.phylogenyinc.com/p/p1_about.html. Our firm specializes in, in situ hybridization, Immunohistochemistry, Tissue Procurement, Mouse Phenotyping, and various other fun stuff. I do some technical sales for the company although it now seams I am also in charge of improving our pagerank so that clients can actually find us. I know many of you are webmasters so if you have any suggestions I am all ears.

Page rank is one of the criteria to have a good position in google search results, but it is not the only one, and not the most important I think.

As the first step I'd get rid of your current home page that has animated image and refresh redirection, and replace it with real home page (/p/p1_about.html). After that make sure you put 301 redirect from /p/p1_about.html to /index.html so you don't loose visitors who has your old homepage bookmarked or who finds your old homepage in Google/Yahoo/MSN/etc.
