My old (2 computers ago) HP machine kinda had it's motherboard fried (Overclocking fan failure, dead chipset) and I kept the Athlon Xp 3200+ B.... I'm glad I kept it!
Why is the processor still SO expensive? I am glad I finally got another board with which to use it, an OEM Asus board with SATA and some overclocking settings, but I just noticed the processor goes for $180 on Ebay!! I can get a Core 2 Duo for that price! What gives?? |

Probably because it's the fastest for many socket a mainboards.

| P3 tualtin 1.4 goes for $75 for the same reason. Many companies don't want to spend the dough to upgrade everything but the processor is an easy swap. That is why the absolute fastest chips for a given class can be quite sought after. |

I'm still trying to figure out why people whine about the prices of CPU's when in all it's the hiking prices of memory that is the expensive upgrade ,as far as I can see.

You from my area ? If you need a Socket 462 MB I'll give you one so you can try out that CPU again before letting it go...

I have one, actually, but it does not support 400FSB. It POSTS and then fails when I put my processor in it, when it worked.... I think I jsut need a new processor.... I'm thinking around the 2800-3000+ area. I am positive the mobo works, and it's a nice mATX board with SATA and 1394... But no overclocking I bet I can tweak the PLL, though....
I really just hope that after unplugging the cmos+PS I can plug it all back in and try again.... Maybe it'll work!! I feel, though, it will not. Poor depressed me. I am stuck forever on this lousy replacement!!
Also, is there a market for fried processors, or are just the working ones collected? |

If all is lost with my processor, I'll sell them both on the CPUbay Athlon 1800+ and Athlon 3200+B. More news to come, dont want to engage sales outside of the Fs/T area. |

Whelp, I think I am dead in the water.
Here's what happen:
3200+ POSTS on A7V8X-LA.
3200+ POSTS on Winfast K7S. I take it home.
3200+ does NOT POST on A7V8X-LA. I take it back to work.
3200+ does NOT POST on K7S.
I buy a new 2400+.
2400+ POSTS on K7S. I take it home.
2400+ does NOT POST on A7N8X-LA. I take it back to work.
2400+ does NOT POST on K7S. Much sadness.
3200+ does NOT POST on K7S. Much more sadness.
I tried everything- Different RAM, PS, Heatsink, CMOS, the works.
I am very, very, very sad.
Does anybody have a working s462 board, I can send them my processors and have them check them for me? Within 70mi, please. I am in Boston.
I really, really, really hope they both work and it is a strange MOBO flu going around. I just bought the 2400+ for $30 and that 3200+ is worth a months rent for me (my share, anyways). |
