I've started to notice something lately... ES aren't as "special" anymore as they appear to be! I've got a great example of just what I mean but first, I continue rambling on about it.I came on here last year and saw amazing chips fly threw threads in here left and right. I always thought it was awsome to see ES 's past by as hard to find and the so called "rare" term being used, but now ,after seeing people owning 4+ ES of one kind of the same chip, and more handfulls of others, and selling them like weed at a corner of a street, is kinda starting to make me wonder what the F I'm collecting this for ! ES's ain't rare, nor hard to find at all ! As far as I'm conserned, their pretty much just as valuble at this point as a regular chip ! I mean sheesh ! it's one thing to have one of each ES, but 4+ ????
Look at my examples now, and tell me, how many of these can a guy have to offer for sale until he turns blue ? I mean common guys ! What kinda respect is this for the term, hard to find or rare is an ES. I've lost the edge for ES's now...

ps. don't take offence chipfans, I'm just using your quantity as examples ..there's more like you out there !

Pentium III and IV ESs are cheaper than normal versions because :
1) many of buyers don't have enough knowlage to know what exactly they buying - they don't want to risk
2) these CPUs aren't main priority of most CPU collectors - they are to young
That is why they are cheap - that doesn't means they are not rare. You can try by own to search PIV ES in used part shop, yank yard and see result of "rarity" _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

Of course there are starting to pop up ES from scrapped PIII:s and early P4:s. Since there are more and more chips produced there will be more and more ES:s on the market.
Lets say there are 30 times more PIII:s than 486 produced. A 486 ES will always be 30 times more rare. (If they produced the same % ES) And since there probably are even more P4:s there will be even more of them. _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. | I would say that currently P3 and P4 ES supply is greater than demand and that is why they sell for $15-$35. The Chinese are scrapping thousands and thousands of chips these days so even if one out of every 10k chips is an ES you will find many on e-bay. It is also notable that from my experience as a scrapper, P3 and early P4 systems are the ones most often being decommissioned right now so supply is at it's height on these chips. |

Exactly... but more like 300 times. |
Tried to google the amounts produced. Anyone knows how many of each family where made? _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. Now over 6000 different chips in the database. |
