Sorry about posting a comment there, I missed that line about the forum. I don't know if a mod still has what I wrote since I forgot some of it Razz

Anyway, I have an AMD Duron 1.2GHz, the only original piece of a custom-built and upgraded computer, which is now really old, slow, and dying. I have a VIA Tech. MB, model VT8363.

I've been told I can have Athlon XP but I can't remember the details, so I was wondering what the best processor is I could install. If I could have information about it's power in GHz that'd be great since I'm more familiar with that Razz

Would you happen to know how to find the max. RAM I could install as well?

Thanks.

VT8363 is your northbridge, it supports 200 mhz fsb only, so athlon 1400 is best you can use, probably u can use 512 mb ram per slot

Oh dear. That's not good. Well, can anyone suggest a MB+CPU combo, over 2GHz, but under £100? Thanks

Athlon 64 3000 + Gigabyte motherboard with integrated VGA and PCI-E separately for future external VGA card + 512 DDR = exactly one hundred Great Britain Pounds Smile

I have a pretty old but fine working motherboard for my nephew which I built from spare parts from my old system. It is a MSI MS6382 version 1 MoBo with 1.2 bios and 100/133 FSB for use with 200 mhz/266 mhz Athlon / Duron cpus. Ram max 2 GB DDR and is using DDR 400 / 512R ram chips

Original manual states I can use up to 1500 mhz Athlon Thunderbird cpus, but I have seen posts around the many forums and webs about Athlon XP being used in these motherboards, but they don't say whether they have version 1 version 2 or version 3 motherboard.

Does anyone know if there is proof that the Athlon XP cpu (Probably Palomino only) working on the Version 1 MoBo of the MS6382. If not, I will probably upgrade to newer MoBo next year, but would just like to find out if I can use the Athlon XP on this board or will the original Athlon Thunderbird 1400mhz be the highest this board will take?
