Hi all,
Last friday i went to the Cebit in Hannover. I had an appointment with AMD and talked to Guiseppe Amato. He told me some nice details about the upcomming Barcelona core.
I asked him where the K8L name came from and he said the following about that. The K8L name was used for the project when the development of the Barcelona core. It should never have become public.
As everybody knows now, it was later renamed to K10. Unfortunately i did get the chance to ask him what happened with the K9. He did tell me that the design of the Barcelona core started about two years ago.
I hoped to see a working system with the Barcelona core, get some interesting details and see a 300mm wafer.
I talked with Mr. Amato, so i got the details. Unfortunately I was shown no working system, but was one at the CeBIT? And the wafer..... well have a look :

PS. I put a new site online www.coprocessor.info. The articles about IIT and Cyrix are based on interviews with former employees from those companies. Please have a look and tell what you think. |

To PS: Nice site. The Weitek 4167 was available in two speeds: 25 and 33MHz.
Edit: USSR is missing for 8087 producers (see left). _________________ Frank. |

The site looks very good. It'd be nice if it was possible to click on FPU family name or manufacturer on the front page of the site and go to the family/manufacturer page directly.
