Remember me? The NexGen designer?

I have two TRW MPY-24HJ bipolar chips, and I am going to sell only one of them via eBay. I know of only one other that I gave to a friend of mine many years ago.

This is a 24 by 24 multiplier that does both sign-magnitude and 2's complement multiplies of two 24 bit operands. This is an extremely rare chip in an unusual package. It was to be used in a board level design to support 32 bit floating point multiplies.

The chip is a SAMPLE. The 64 pin package is approximately 1 inch wide by 3.3 inches long. One of the largest DIPs ever made! I think the pins are gold plated. It comes in its own plastic carrying case and is temporarily seated into foam. Also in the case is a paper listing TRW LSI Products Terms and Conditions. Made at TRW's fab in La Jolla, California.

The chip was originally supposed to dissipate 3.5 Watts max., but this sample dissipated around 5 watts. I don't believe it was ever put into production. Circa mid 1980's.

I will list the eBay auction in the links category as soon as I have placed it on eBay.

Nice. Looks the same length as a PDP J-11 DIP, but not as wide.
