Tools for CPU Collectors

I came acrosss a couple things that I thought fellow chip collectors might be interested in.
I went looking for a display case for the nicer chips and found a bunch great options at Michael's Hobby and Craft store. While Michaels is a chain in the US, any local craft store should have these.They are Shadow boxes and display cases and are perfect for chips, here http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displayProductPage?productNum=fr0326 is an example. They had 10 or so different sizes and 5 different colors (black,mahogany, beech, etc) as well as different mounting material and different mounting colors but none of them are shown on the website. I am going to purchase two more and will post pictures here this weekend. They are also pretty inexpensive, between $19.00 and $35.00. I am not sure how to mount them at this point, ideas would be great to share as I know some of you already have custom display cases.

The other thing I came across is

Google Base is a new online database and Google Docs and Spreadheets is exactly what the name implies, both are perfect for those that dont have dedicated websites for sharing there trade/sells lists as well as there wanted list. You can import and export into either application as well as set various permissions for others with Google accounts. The only negative is that if you want to place permissions on the files the only people that can see it are other users with Google accounts. Otherwise you have to make it public which allows everyone to see it.


Here is the beginning of my CPU Collection spreadheet. I imported this from a standard Excel sheet. I've only made a few entries but you get the idea. I will be putting up a Wanted and a Trade list this weekend and then linking to it in my signature.

The best display cases I have come across were at target. I had also looked at the michaels ones but the ones from target were less than half the price and of higher quality. I was making a display of the first century of x86 processors 8086 - P4. I still haven't found a good way to glue them down. The acid free rubber cement failed. I wanted an attachment method that did not harm the chips but is rigid and permanent (on the bright side the rubber cement did not harm the chips at all). They are not really that valuable of chips but I can't abide the ideal of epoxy. Any Ideas?

I have a few pieces mounted in a picture frame using high density anti-static foam, the black stuff, the pink coloured stuff doesnt look as good. Yes yes, I know the foam will break down in like 5-10 years.. but then it's easy to change and CHEAP. Holds the devices without problems and is easy to mount..

The largest size I can get is 30cm x 30cm, but its only 6mm or so thick. Ask around, its fairly common stuff, but dont pay too much. I have a bunch and if you get stuck maybe I can send you some.

I was wondering the same thing. Where did you get yours JAC?
I can get the pink stuff from our Dell server boxes but pink just doesnt look as good as black
