I built my computer in January, I never had any heat problems or any problems for that matter.
However, yesterday I was playing Oblivion and was noticing a unusual amount of lag. Suddenly my computer shut down. I checked the temperature of the CPU, it was at 150C, it usually idles at about 40C.
I cleaned all the dust out and reinserted the CPU Heatsink/Fan, then i let it cool for a few hours. I tried again and went to the BIOS to check the temperature. It started at around 65C and quickly rose to 110C which it shuts off at. I've checked all the fans, they're spinning and the Heatsink seems to be fine. I have not overclocked anything at all either
Any ideas? |

Try to apply some thermal grease on the CPU then mount the heatsink and then take it of and see if the thermal grease has spreaded on the heatsink and CPU, if not the heatsink doesn't make contact with the CPU.If yes, maybe the heatsink is incapabile of cooling the 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, try changing the heatsink and after that check again the temperatures.

Was probably around 110 rather than 150.
And I got the thermal compound, gonna try it tomorrow. |
