|

Hello everyone,
Im thinking about building a new system, jsut sorting out how much its all going to cost. I've decided on the motherboard, but have gotten stuck at choosing a CPU, and was hoping you could guide me in the right direction please.
The M/B i've chosen is a ASUS P5VD2-MX SE. its a LGA775, so i was thinking of for for a dual core cpu. Now is when i got confused. I went onto the microdirct website, and was browsing through the processors when i saw an "Intel pentium 4 D 935 Dual Core 2x3.2GHz 800FSB 2x2MB cache, then i was a core 2 duo 1.8GHz 800FSB 2MB cache.
i was a bit confused by which one decide on, so i asked a friend, who is very one sided. He said "a core 2 duo has a new architecture, so it will perform better", but it is only a 1.8Ghz.
Could someone give it to me straight and say which CPU is the better on (giving me a quicker machine). i will be using the PC for audio production and recording.
Sorry if i've babbled on a bit, also sorry if this is in the wrong area.
Thanks for any help...Jack Lindsay |

I'd say go for the Core 2, after verifying that your motherboard can take it (check on Asus's web site).
Here is a sample benchmark:

The Pentium D may be faster for certain tasks, but should pump up more current, generate a lot more heat, which in turn means noise, etc. |
