Hi there.
Is there any advantage to having the RAM in a system running faster than the FSB/CPU?
I'm asking because the PC133 SDram in this machine is currently running at 177 - I upped the FSB from 100 to 133 to make a 1.5gig P4 into a 2gig one! I know how to reduce the multiplier but I forgot to do it when I OCed this system. It's running 100% stable at the moment - tested using Orthos and a couple of other utils.
I have a couple of REAL 2gig P4s turning up in a few days (one as a "spare") and I was going to see how far I could OC one of them, but I'm not sure how much faster I can push the ram.
My intention is to try and up the FSB further (with the 2gig cpu in place) to get as much as I can out of this rig while I'm getting the final bits together for a skt775 one. Was hoping to get up as far as 150/160 (from a base of 100) but if there is a big advantage to having the RAM running faster I might not get it that far.
I have the case/MoBo/ram/HD already, just need the CPU/cooler and optical drives and it will be ready to see how far I can push that LOL

PS - The new mobo is a Jetway 917PBAG that I got for £17 inc postage - did I get a bargain? |
