|
|
Hello all first time here and it looks like I hit the jackpot for the right experts all gathered in one place.
I recently purchased and installed an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice core CPU for my Asus K8N-E Deluxe Socket 754 mobo. I installed the processor fired up the computer and it will post but then it restarts. It repeats this cycle, I can't even get into safe mode in Windows. I don't believe the CPU is bad since the PC posts and it's correctly identified in the bios settings.
Other items of note:
I'm upgrading from a 3000+ Newcastle core
When I swap out the 3200+ for the 3000+ the PC posts and boots into Windows XP fine
The only thing I'm changing is the processor, everything else is the same in the box
Any thoughts, this one is really frustrating me! |

Hey thanks for the reply.
I believe I'm currently running 1007. It was the only bios that was able to let me run my memory at DDR400 speeds. |

Gotcha!
Okay, I flashed to 1012.007 (all that was available) and it booted right into Windows.
I noticed however; that I have to manually set my processor speed in the bios in order to achieve 2.2 GHz. In addition it seems that my Corsair DDR400 (rated at 200 MHz) memory is only running at a speed of 157 MHz. The ratio that is reported in CPU-z is FSB:DRAM = CPU/14. How can I get my memory to run at the correct speed? |

For that one I have no clue, check for onboard jumpers to select, overclock if you need the current settings (to default values of components - ram/vga/etc.).
Maybe save a config to always load at start, hope it doesn't interfere with cool and quiet functionality.
Got my double-barreled shot, now I'm out of ammo....
