did some rough calculations or estimations. visible gold on heatspreader of pentium pro should be around 0,01 g alone, pDIP16 has 1g so much more than 1/100 of it had to be gold if the soviet chip story is true, which i doubt. (where should this gold be?)

1g gold is 20 dollars, so a little more than 1 Euro/piece is logic price for recyclers when Vinicios numbers can be trusted.

The "scrap cpu gold" sellers on ebay have a nice market. Have you stopped to ask yourself why they are selling it. I see you can even buy a video showing you how to do it.

If it is so easy they why are the sellers selling huge lots of cpus in the first place? I am not talking about the small piles.. there are some very large auctions.

.. the answer is simple.. they are selling the lure of huge prize in the unknown gold value, just like a good salesman not pointing out the less desirable aspects. The reality for most is little gain and the loss of some rare cpu.

What do you thinking about recycling?
My first idea - it is vandalism Smile
But next idea - they makes CPUs rare! they assist in our hobby. when no recycling everybody had 4004.
