I now have a few remarked Athlon XP and Duron processors. What's interesting is that the chips were remarked to slower speed. My guess is that they were remarked by OEM companies/shops because the processors didn't work reliably at their marked speed:
Markings on Athlon XP 1000+. You can see that the chip was remarked at least twice:
AXDA800DKV3C with markings partially removed:
I used acetone to remove the paint. It was very easy to remove it , so I doubt that remarking was done by AMD.

Maybe some refurbished cpus?
Instead of throwing them away they maybe could have restested the cpus and remarked them to the speed they could still work at?
Not very possible but one shot. |

I haven't tested. A person I bought it from said it doesn't work.
