|
|
G'day and greetings from Tasmania. Can I upgrade the CPU on a Mercury KOB KT266A FDSX mobo to a Athlon XP 2400 Thoroughbred part no. AXDA2400DKV3C? If not, what is the fastest Athlon I can use? The board has a real FSB of either 100 or 133 Mhz. I believe that amounts to an "effective" FSB of 200 or 266 Mhz. Manual doesn't specify max CPU speed.
Regards
Carl |

Open your case and looking at the chipset if is a 8233 support an FSB of 200 or if is an 8233A support an FSB of 266.
In all case you have to flash your bios at the last version available so: in the first case max CPU is an Athlon 1400 or in the second case max CPU is an Athlon XP 2600+ Thoroughbred A/B core (attention at the FSB version because is available also a 2600+ with FSB 333).
If you don't flash your bios max CPU is in all case an Athlon 1400. |

also if you are indeed using a mobo with a KT266-kT266A chipset some mobo makers cut its upgradability by only supporting the palomino processors up to around AX1700+ palomino on the KT266, and the KT266A only supported up to around AX2100+ palomino's so to support AXDA you had to buy a new mobo or get a hacked bios .
example
Soyo SY-K7V Dragon only supported up to 1700+ palomino's AX1700+ not thoroughbred cpu's AXDA1700+
Soyo SY-K7V Dragon Plus only supported up to 2100+ palomino's AX2100+ not thoroughbred AXDA cpu's AXDA2100+
so its best to ask the manufacture with the latest bios what cpu's will the mobo support |

The max CPU without flashed BIOS is the 2400+ Thoroughbred B The chipset supports a MAX FSB of 300MHz (thats with overclocking) but the max default FSB speed is 266.
The 2600+ is supported but with a update to the BIOS |
