Tough one.

We need a few more things:

what are you planning to do with this PC?
gaming; mail and surfing etc.

Be extensive in answering.

I had Athlon 1400 (133 FSB) and Celeron 2.0 Northwood, depending on the app you are using, because of the 600 mhz difference, one can be better than the other. In the Whole, the 1400 was better, but like zipping and others, was slower (not that dramatically).

You have 1 ghz of difference, maybe interesting to know your plans.

Edit:

Celeron has SSE SSE2, 2.3 Ghz... uhm, I'd say it's better.
Waiting for your reply though.

Thanks for the reply... Ill be using the computer for all of the things that you mentioned. Mostly gaming like half life 2 and swkotor2. Also lots of net surfing and downloading and emails. I dont do much cd burning, but I do use a playstation emulator. Other than that its just basic computer stuff. Looking forward to your reply.

If these are the two alternatives, Celeron 2.3.

I'd suggest to buy Amd Athlon Xp, on ebay, if you are in the US you'll find good bargains for cheap.

People give your 2 cents here.

Wait for some more replies.

Thanks again man, but I still cant decide for sure. I noticed that there are lots of other numbers that are higher on the athlon and I was wondering if you know what those are?

You may want to look not only which processor is faster, but also which board has better upgrade potential. Say, if you Intel board can be upgraded to Pentium 4 2.8 GHz, and AMD board can take Athlon XP 3200+ then you may want to go with the AMD board. My feeling, though, is that your Intel board has better potential.

The board with the celeron is an emacines and the athlon is on a via Technologies VT8367-8235 with 4 pci slots and supports ddr ram and sd ram, separately of course. Does any one know the best processor that I can put into the via, as I think it is the nicer of the boards.

Sorry, can't help with this one

VT8367-8235 is a chipset, not a motherboard. It may support 333 MHz FSB, which means you may be able to use Athlon XP 3000+. Try to find out make and model of your Athlon motherboard either by looking at the motherboard (it should be printed somewhere in big letters), or look at what BIOS shows when you start your computer.

It supports Athlon XP 2400+ or maybe even Athlon XP 2600+:

http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=39706

It may not support Athlon XP 3000+. I think it'll be better to stay with Celeron computer.
