| Hi, I have a Dell 4600 PC with a motherboard numbered E210882, which converts to an Intel board D865GLC. Question is: I need a new processor and all I can find out is that it needs to be a MPGA478 type. I can not find any with that type number. They all seem to have a number like 6LD23 or something like that. Can anyone assist me in finding out what CPUs will fit and work in my board? Dell is not much help at all and completely overpriced. I really appreciate any assistance you could provide. Thanks Jim |

| Thanks for the assistance. I had already found the link you reference but couldn't decide which processors I could use. Most of the time I see the 6 digit number like 74LG3 being used. Disregarding that number, would it be safe to assume I could use any processor listed on the chart, from the EXTREME EDITION all the way down to the CELERON, as long as the numbers match the respective columns? Hope that all made sense... I had an Intel P4 3.2/800/512 that went bad. Again, thanks for your assistance. |

I think it's safe to assume that your board supports all processors from sections marked "All board revisions support these processors". That page says how to check for board revision. Even if the board is re-branded by IBM it may still have revision markings. See if you can find them on your board.

One more question if you will... What is the difference between Prescott, northwood, etc processors? Is one kind better than the other? Thanks so much for you assistance..
