Just upgraded cpu, bought the amd athlon xp 3000+ with front side bus 333mhz.
My board is the VIA Apollo KT400 series Socket A which supports the FSB with this processor, my problem is that when the computer starts, the speed is reading 2800.
I altered the jumpers on my board for the cpu clock to 166mhz which is what it's supposed to be and is showing this correct in the CMOS setup utility.
Also in CMOS the processor speed is correct, reading 2167 but when computer boots the speed is displaying 2800+
Is there something i've missed, does anyone have any suggestions. |

If CPU frequency in CMOS is correct then you shouldn't worry about it. It's possible that motherboard's BIOS doesn't know anything about this processor. Try to upgrade the BIOS.

I found an update from esupport as unfortunately my mainboard manufacturer's website doesn't appear to exist anymore. I had to pay about £15 for the bios update.
Unfortunately due to the fact that I was unsuccessful in updating the bios I have requested a refund from esupport.
I've been told I may have a faulty bios chip as I keep getting error messages that are to do with whatever is preventing me from updating so I've decided to stick with the original cpu, I least I know it will display the correct speed and I don't need to update the bios. It's less hassle.
Thank you for any help, it was appreciated. |
