I have an MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU mainboard and have been running a 1.33 GHZ Thunderbird chip in it for several years. The cpu compatibility info on the MSI website says that the board will take Athlon XP cpus up to 2600+, and only the 266FSB versions e.g. Palomino or Thoroughbred.

I bought an XP 2400+ cpu through ebay (AXDA2400DKV3C) thinking that this would be compatible, however shortly after installing it I began to receive Windows STOP errors and erratic behaviour from the PC. Upon replacing my original cpu, these problems stopped. Is it just a faulty cpu, or could there be something else I need to do to get it to work with my system? Heat was not a problem - the 2400 chip was actually running far cooler than my old chip does. The BIOS Post info recognized the 2400 chip correctly and showed a clock speed of 2000MHz as expected. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Run a good stress test like Prime95 or Orthos on the new chip see if it fails, then run the same tests on the old chip and see if they fail. That is the easiest thing to do because everything else will be the same for it. But my first reaction is you have a beat cpu.
