Hi,

I currently have a Packaerd Bell Laptop with 'supposedly' a 3.4GHz CPU in it. (Easynote H5315) Now, basically it SUCKS! I dont think there is any way it is running at this speed since my 1.3GHz duron tower pc is much faster!

Now, Im thinking of getting a laptop with the AMD Turion X2 64 1.9GHz dual core in it, and I was just wandering if anyone has the know how to compare these 2 CPUs?

See, the thing is - there is no way in hell that my pentium 3.4GHz will play any games with 2GHz minimum requirements (forgetting about graphics for the moment). Does anyone know if a dual core 1.9GHz cpu would!?

Im just really confused becuase it seems from my experiance that the chip speed means nothing when it comes to ACTUAL speed.

=)

Its your operating system- Only compare performance of PCs with equally 'fresh' operating systems and alterior configuration (IE RAM, HDD, etc etc).

See, I have a Core 2 Duo T5500 in my laptop. Very powerful. But I can't play any 3D games since my video card is an Intel 945GM...
For 3D games, graphic cards are now more important than cpus...

Thanks guys,

so.....assuming both processors were in the same pc with the same configuration, same FSB speed, RAM...everything......(and no viruses) would the pentium 3.6GHz beat the AMD dual core 1.9GHz....

or would the dual core be like effectively 3.8GHz.........?? Very confusing...... especially as lots of apps have minimum specs based upon cpu speed.......

Well, with some applications (multithreaded), a dual core 1.6 will par with a 3.8 (theoretically) but single threaded apps, like most games, your 1.6 dual-core will par with a 1.6Ghz single core system.

Head on over to TomsHardware.com and read up on multi-core goodness.
