I have an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ - AXDA2800DKV4D processor with the following parameters: Bus frequency 166, multiplier: 12.5. I have two SDRAM 256mhz pc2700... I am not supposed to have any problems, but each time I start the computer the fan and the leds starts, then the computer stops. So I have to try again and then the BIOS appears saying that "In the last boot a hang up was detected, please check bus speed, etc..." I already tried different configurations with the same results... Can somebody please tell me what is going on?
By the way I have an Asus A7V8X-X motherboard and I just updated the BIOS... Thank you.

Hi!
IMHO problem is in VIA KT400.
Officially it supports 100 and 133 bus.
166 is undocumented.
Does it work normally with 133?
If yes, your 2800+ needs other mobo with KT400A or KT600... or maybe NF2 Smile

Anyway, if I understand what you are saying it means that is possible that my processor will only work at 1663mhz with this MoBo, instead of the 2083mhz that it is supposed to?

KT400 is the main microchip of your A7V8X-X motherboard.
and it means that this motherboard is OK for 100 and 133 bus,
but 166 is lottery.

Does it work normally with 133 bus???

For the moment I canīt test the computer... My CPS is out of order, Iīll get another one in the next days and Iīll post a replay then... But I red that the processorīs multiplier is locked at 12.5... That means Iīm forced to set the FBS at 166mhz to obtain the 2083mhz... Right? Or maybe thereīs another way?
Anyway... Iīll write back as soon as I can with the results about the test at 133mhz...
Thank you...

Right. There is a way to unlock the multiplier and get 2083MHz with a lower FSP, but it is an expert work.

Finally, I changed the power supply and all the troubles I had with the fbs vaporized... So, I think it was a voltage problem... My MoBo and my processor (166mhz x 12.5) are working perfectly together...
Thanks for all the advises, at least I have learned some new things...
ītill next time...
