I have an Athlon XP2100 and a K7S41GX board. I want to upgrade the board to something newer that uses pci express. My budget dictates that i can only do one at a time. So the board needs to support my 2100 and in a few months a new processor. Any help would be greatly welcome. As i am close to booting my slow performing system out the window. PLEASE help.

You must change both cpu and motherboard.

You can try amd am2 socket cpus and motherboards, they are cheap.
DDR2 ram is low priced at the moment.

You can have a new system for cheap (100-150€).

There are no socket a (for AthlonXP) motherboard with PCI-E.
And there's no sense in using old DDR memory now.
DDR2 is better and twice as cheap Smile
The best way is to buy new motherboard+minimum CPU (sempron AM2 or celeron S775)+DDR2.
