Hey folks,
I decided to upgrade my camera and I bought a Nikon D40.
I cant find the special JAC mode I asked for. The one where you just point the camera at anything and just press the button for amazing pictures.
Awesome camera though. Cheap as well!
How many people here have DSLRs? |

I have a Canon EOS 400D with Canon EFS 17-85 lens.
Not long ago I purchased a Metz 58AF-1 flash and an additional lens (Tamron 28-300 VC)
The price of original DSLR accessories is quite high. You should look at lenses from third party manufacturers.
The Nikon 18-200mm VR costs about EUR 700.
A similar lens from Tamron AF 28-300mm F/3,5-6,3 XR Di VC LD Aspherical IF MACRO costs about EUR 500.
http://www.tamron.de/index.php?id=417&L=2&kc_prid=601&kc_prgrid=7
I purchased such a lens (Canon version) for EUR 530. I am very satisfied with it.
There is also a Nikon version.
The Tamron 28-300 VC has also an image stabiliser.
There is only one significant difference between both lenses - the Nikon is an AF-S lens and the Tamron an AF one.
AF-S lenses smaller and can be only used with half-size-sensor DSLRs like your D40.
A full size lens (AF) will fit in your half-size-sensor DSLR, in the film SLR and in the full-size-sensor DSLR you will buy later |

I don't know.
That depends on you. What kind of pictures are you going to take with the lens?
A wide-angle lens is useful when taking pictures of large objects from a close distance (ex. indoor photography).
Unfortunately the wide-angle lenses produce pictures with considerable perspective distortion.
You should always use a medium zoom setting (25-35mm) and take pictures from longer distance if possible.
An example (taken from www .sportsphotoguy.com)
Another purpose of a wide-angle lens is photo art.
In this case you need a professional lens (ex. Nikkor AF-S DX 4,0/12 - 24mm) for only EUR 1049.00 |
