| did you upgrade the hardware as well, or is the new version of phpbb just a lot faster? it seems really speedy now |

I don't have control over hardware, I can only change software. I installed "eXtreme styles" modification (http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=125251). Normally, when a forum page is requested, the phpBB loads a few template files, generates PHP code from them and then executes the code. The eXtreme style mod caches generated code, and instead of generating the code next time, it loads cached copy. It should be faster than plain phpBB forum, but I don't know how much faster.

well its very nice  im working on converting my site to smarty templates, and im hoping it speeds it up a lot .. |
