thanks!
but why should this be remarked into a ES?
since they are same frequency, same L2 cache size.
seems like a stupid fake. _________________ My vintage CPU collection:www.cpumuseum.com

JAC and Hugo's Pentium Pro 200 ES looks like faked from Pentium Pro 180.
JAC, is it right?
I agree with Marcin, hugo can use a knife or other tool to remove the top layer and take off the lable at the bottom to fine what is the original.
I think they are not faked for collectors as collectors can identify they are not ES by the S-Spec at bottom. _________________ Yan |

Maybe it is history like this : Intel made i.e. 50 units of Q936 (very small quantity) and started mass production of SY048. But there was to many "test companies" (not only manufacturers) like web services, events, big shops so Intel remarked SY048 to Q936 because in real there aren't any technical difference. Intel had problem with returning samples so remarked normal CPUs wasn't so big problem - they could leave them in open market. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

LZF's Q936 is also fake I see it from front side. Check left bottom corner - you can see "diaphanous" original ceramic layer. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

| I wouldn't turn on your chip yet hugo. It's not an es but rather a qualification sample. I have seen many qualification samples that also bore an s-spec. This is not uncommon. I have to examples myself one of which I took from an IBM pc myself. I also don't see anything wrong with a qualification sample of a boxed processor. Motherboards still have to work with those. As to the q-spec Q936 being 512k instead of 256k do we have real documentation of this or do we know this because of lzf's chips. Those we know were fake. They had easy to identify paint on them as to why they were originally made who knows but I don't think Intel did it. I would say if you can't scrape any paint off and the q-spec is cleanly laser engraved you have a legitimate qualification sample. |
