| I recently acquired some large boards with IBM PowerPC 740's on them and was thinking about cutting the board around the chip. I wanted to see if there were any good ways to do this without serious equipment. |

| You can try using Dremel-like tools. Be carefult, wear eyes protection-glasses and a mouth/nose filter for the dust |

I was thinking some kind of metal cutters might work. I do have a Dremel though but might be messy to use the Dremel with all the toxic dust  |

Dremel works great for me- I do it outside
You can also try scoring and cracking the board... Works for smaller components, with care. |

| By my experience it's better to use wood-cutting disk than metal-cutting if you use Dremel, at low rotating speed they made less dust |
