| I came across this Fairchild 914hc TTL (OR GATE) date code 7345. Are metal package TTL's common. I have never seen them in this package before but I am not all that savvy of older electronics |

Yeah, this package is fairly common with early transistor devices in addition to some later TTL chips (74xx series chips, etc.). I think Intel even made some chips in this package.
You find these in old transistor radios and televisions very commonly. I've found some on various pieces of old telecom equipment and consumer electronics. Definitely a neat package. _________________ My collection |

That is actually not a TTL chip, it's made in one of the technologies that preceded it: RTL. It's a close cousin of the chips from which the AGC (Apollo guidance computer) was built in the 1960s. The same computer that landed man on the Moon 50 years ago.
