Are they any known faked examples? before I contact the seller, it would be good to have as much information as possible. It may be the case the seller was selling what he thought was true.. but I am curious about his wording...
"AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Engineering Sample
(2.2GHz, 512KB, 1GHz Bus, Socket 939 - MPN: ADA3500DIK4BI)
This CPU is sought after since it has an unlocked multiplier which allows you to overclock with ease since you don't have to mess around with the FSB settings!"
How would he know it is an engineering sample - does it say that in something like cpu info when the chip is being used? |

No idea if these are known to be faked, but if its money involved, why not? One reason that we have not seen these yet, might be that there are still to many in use in pre-assembled machines (where you can "hide" the true identity of a chip.) Not to many sold separately yet.
Yes cpu-z usually shows chips as ES _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. Now over 6000 different chips in the database. |

CPU-Z may report that it is an engineering sample. I believe the CPU-Z does it when the clock multiplier is unlocked, which doesn't necessarily mean that the chip is an engineering sample.

| Ok, thanks. Is it possible the markings were reduced prior to heatsink fitting? |

The ones I saw either has weird part numbers, like the chip below, or had normal part number and other markings, and were marked as "Engineering Sample".
