Hi,
no commercial cpu runs at 6Ghz, actual cpu are dual core that means tha inside the package there are 2 cpu (or 4 for a quad-core cpu) but the doesn't means that tha cpu run at the double of the speed, only certain kind of sw take benefit from multi-cpu (but in this case you have huge increase in speed) |

| there is no commercial 6ghz chip. Intel has reached a speed barrier of 4ghz coz of thermal issues and leakage, and they are trying to solve this problem. we probably wont see a 6ghz cpu until 2010. Maybe only 200ghz by 2020 and 1THz by 2025. Until then, weve got dual core and multi core CPUs. Some programs will benefit from these if your a multitasker. |

I don't think that they will reach 1THz in 2025. They have reached one speed barrier and started to make multi-core CPUs |

| Thats why Intel didnt't make a 4Ghz Prescott, and only a 3.73EE on LGA775. |

intel has a reputation in regards to solving scientific barriers. im sure this would be no exception. since technology is constantly evolving. all parts of the computer will become more and more better and bigger. when industry analysts said that 50mhz was the limit, Intel created a 100mhz chip. Bill gates once said "640k ought to be enough for anybody". new computers are being fitted with 1gb of ram nowadays. the ability to solve problems despite all odds is one of the characteristics of mankind.
we had the kilohertz age (1960-1980) and the megahertz age (1980-2000). now we're at the gigahertz age (2000-2020). each age has had its own set of problems but we have always found a way to fix them. soon we will be at the terahertz age (2020-2040), and the petahertz age (2040- 2060). but technological progress will never stop. |

Hi,
Cell cpu from IBM should run up to 6,4Ghz, here in Italy the "ThuG OC Team" has overclocked a Pentium 631 over 8Ghz, and some prototipe chip from IBM reached 300GHz so nothing is already written .... |

You got a point there. I wonder what kind of cooler will be able to cool down a CPU running at 1PHz or even 1THz?
Speaking of these high SI prefixes, do any of you know what's higher than yotta? |

| Yotta (10^24) is largest and last SI prefix at the moment, while Yocto is the smallest (10^-24) |

There is a law called mores law that cpu power will doudle every year so by next year we should have a 6ghz cpu for about $200 |
