Hi,
the "Idle Process" is a fake process used to show you the "do nothing" time of you processor, so if it shows a 98% means that your cpu is working only at 2% of it's time, so don't worries about it it's normal

The Cpu keeps on running and i am able to hear the sound of the CPU may be the fan, processore or the harddisk. I am not sure as what is happening and how to stop the process.

You do not want to stop that process, it is a normal part of windows.

The new CPU s are far better than the ones before a few years ago. The new duo core series and core 2 duo are very powerful and graphics supporting.
