| What fan/heatsink do you suggest for the Turion cpu for a Socket 754 motherboard? I might do a little overclocking with it. |

Most likely, your Turion will not work in your run-of-the-mill Socket 754 board- Go carefully!
If it does, I recommend extracting the heatspreader from an Intel Socket 478 chip, and recycling it Worked for my Mobile Athlon in a standard Socket 754 board, with a standard heatsink. |

I agree, attach a heat spreader using thermal epoxy. I used a spreader swiped from a tualtin pentium 3 that i dremmeled notches in to acomidate the resistors on top the turion. Use any heat sink you want once you have the heat spreader on it you won't chip the die and the thickness will be negligibly close to any normal athlon. You must be careful to find a board that supports the turion though (I have asus K8V-MX which works.) Information on other boards may be found at http://www.silentpcreview.com/ I have attached pics taken during my turion home theater pc built. It is important to note that due to the low thermal output this cpu may easily be passively cooled with a heatsink. This is especially true if you have a power supply that has one of the large fans on the underside as it supplies plenty of air movement.
Good luck. |
