computer shut down and restarts

Has anyone ever ran into this? my cousin bought a computer from a guy. MSI PM8M V M/B, Intel Celeron 2.93. He called me and asked if I would look at it for him, when you start a program the system will shut down and then restart on it's own. he put a new video card in it and he had problems with it and he put the old one back in it. I checked the memory and it's good, checked the hard drive and it's OK, checked the P/S and all the volts are OK. I think it's the processer or M/B, dont want to stress check it and have it go out, because it's not mine. The guy he got it from I don't trust. Thanks everyone!

This behavior is very common.

When a program or driver crashes and the BSOD (blue screen of death) appears, the computer reboots automatically. That's why the user can't see the error message and isn't able to find out what caused the crash - An idiotic situation!


Fortunately it's possible to deactivate the automatic reboot after the BSOD.

You should deactivate this so called "feature" and look at the error message you get during next crash.

No not the blue screen, I mean it cuts all the way off like you cut the power to it, and then come back on. And it will work good then you will open a program like nero and it will do it again then it will be different one that does it the next time.

You can't see the blue screen because the PC reboots.

Well I took the hard drive out and put an extra one of mine in it and started to put windows back in. Then it went off again. I got it to come back on and now the keyboard will not work. Took it to a friends that has a M/B the cpu would work on and the same. I can not get pass the setup screen with no keyboard. I think the Cpu is shoot. Anybody have any way to get pass this.
