We had a small pre-dawn earthquake today.
3.8 magnitude...about 50 miles away. Pretty rare here.

Hehe I remember my first 'proper' quake a few years ago... epicentre again like yours John about 50 miles away. Woke me up early morning!

But that's nothing compared to some unfortunate countries around the world...

Last big one I was in was a 7.0 in Hawaii, knocked out the power, stuff fell off the walls, I fell out of bed, but otherwise fine

Never had the pleasure, even if people in my city were all excited to tell how they felt it the time we actually had one worth to make lines in the news.

Closest experience is after a crater of beer in a jacuzzi, after a wedding party. I still shiver on that.

A friend from Tokyo said I should come over to feel a good one, guess I'll pass that...

Well, next time anybody goes to London, visit the Natural History museum and try out the earthquake simulator. I'm sure more museums have these too.

Biggest I have experienced was 7.2, I was 150km away from its center. I also experienced bunch of 5.0+

Actually its distance from the crust of the earth, its duration and soil conditions matter as much as its magnitude.
