I bought these not long ago and I'm wondering if they are the genuine article. The font for Intel is one I've not seen before. Thoughts?

as they are marked as 1997 production and i have seen 1999 486s still with the classic drop e in intel.. i would be very suspect.
That style of intel font was used in their intel inside logo... but even then the t wasnt crossed... it only extended on the right side.
another issue is that size die cap i have only found on the older 486s up to DX2-66.
Anything faster than that was released after the new manufacturing technology reduced the die size.
EDIT>> as the seller used the pic off chipdb.org for the listing
http://www.chipdb.org/img-intel-a80486dx4100-sk096-white-print-950.htm
he either was very lazy or knew they were suss _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

I think it's a fake chip, I've not seen the intel logo like this chip too . _________________ Yan |

If you only paid a few bucks, it's still a cool piece of chip history to own!
Fakes are becoming a sub-category of their own to collect, it seems.
Sadly, I don't have even one Intel chip that looks like a fake... _________________ My collection list (growing) http://johnorun.x86-guide.com/en/collection.html |

Try to use the CPU ID to find the answer. I believe it's the only way to confirm. |

Really strange (possible) fake!
With that logo its seems like its a newly done fake but not aimed at collectors since the sspec iself is not rare.
Must be something aimed at a specific buyer. A company in need of spare parts for old equipment, orders 200 of a specific sspec @ $100 each. Then it becomes a good business to remark a similar chip.
Perhaps the same guys as the famous A80386 DX4? http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8249 _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. Now over 6000 different chips in the database. |

I sent a complaint to eBay for fun. I see my images now and then but usually its to much work. But if the seller are a licensed jerk i gladly will report it. _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. i asked the seller if they are as pictured or the same as he previously sold
this was the response
| Quote: | | Sorry to desaponit you, They are not fake and the easiet way to prove is to install them on a board. Please let me know if you may have any questions. |
i presume everyone can find the listing easily enough... but should i post the current listing so no one else gets done? _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:
