Here are 2 similar Opteron engineering samples that were saved from scrap. As you can see, both are in poor cosmetic condition.
#1. AM8100468061 D242800 Engineering Sample F8155 FS_ ... (ink printing) package 27494
This is working. It identifies as an Opteron 838 (MP), cpuid F50, revision SH-B0
Opteron 840 was the lowest production part, at 1.4 GHz. However, this Opteron 838 sample actually runs at 1.6 GHz. |

#2. AM8100029091 RFBAEZ2 290046 Engineering Sample F7145 (engraved printing) package 27272
This is not working. While not completely dead, it halts during POST. This might be motherboard incompatibility, but the cpu is probably damaged.
27272 is an earlier package number that I have not seen before. Since the package numbers are ordered approximately in time, this might be an earlier sample than #1. The lower part number - AM8100029091 vs. AM8100468061 - also suggests an earlier sample.
I found references to AMD AM8100* in an overclocking forum and a Ukranian auction, so there are at least a few other samples of these. If you have more information about them (especially #2), I welcome you to share.

Too bad I don't have a socket 940 motherboard. I have a few AM8100 processors, but can't test them ...

I would be happy to test them.
Maybe we could figure out if any of the markings indicate dates or specifications. |

I have these:
AM8500095035
AM8260475021
AM8100068041
AM8100049071
AM8100048021
and one or two with partially erased markings: AM8600xxxxxx
These are all socket 940. I also have socket F Opteron samples.
I can ship those to you for testing, but, just in case, I'll need to take their pictures first.

Gennadiy,
Well this sounds fun. Right now, I can test the socket 940, but not the socket F processors.
My usual testing includes (in Windows): CPU-Z, CrystalCPUID, Lavalys Everest, PC Wizard, and SiSoftware SANDRA. There is some redundancy, but sometimes it helps to cross-check the information.
If you would like me to run benchmarks, I can try it. However, you will need to suggest which benchmarking programs to use. |
