|
|
I'm currently working on a project to create gigapixel micro-panoramas from macro/micro photography. A bit like huge landscape panorama (like this recent record : http://www.paris-26-gigapixels.com/index-fr.html ) but of very little subjects. As far as I know, it hasn't been done till now, but if it's not the case, let me know
Of course, as a first test, i've tried on a CPU die (a MIPS VR10000 as in this thread : http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13902 ) just to see all the potential issues i can expect with huge images. And there are many !
After a bit of efforts, here is my first *really big* die shot : 262 Megapixels !
For those who would like to see it, i've set up this page :
http://www.g0b.fr/cpu/Test.htm
If your browser is flash enabled, you should be able to browse the die around as if you were watching through a microscope (try to find Dilbert, Godzilla and the Alien !).
Tell me what you think about it. There are still some artifacts at some places, i'll try to fix that in a future attempt
And i'm waiting for your suggestion about which die I should shoot if I try a multi-gigapixel image. As it is *a lot* of work it should be a big/interesting/nice/famous/historically of interest/ .... and in my or your scrap-box

PS : just to give you an idea, the JPEG of the full die is 324 Mb !!! _________________ Life is a long lesson in humility |

It is really crazy, very impressive !
But, why a MIPS ? |
Thanks !
Why a MIPS ?
Because :
- Die is really large (225 sq mm) so it is possible to make big images without the problems that arise with high magnifications
- I found it quite good looking
- There are some easter eggs on it
- It is easy to open
- I had a broken one

I can swear to the chinese authorities that there is absolutely NO subversive content on my server . Strange censorship anyway...

This is a really nice effort. I saw Dilbert, and some sort of gremlin, and lots of initials from designers' names.
Also, look at the fancy quilt pattern I found: |
