a few things:

1) its 'sempron', not 'selron' or 'celeron'.

2) your motherboard's bios is out of date, and doesn't support the sempron, so it thinks its an athlon xp, thats why it says athlon xp when you boot. check your motherboard manufacturer's site for a new bios.

3) you have the chip running at the wrong speed. a sempron 2600+ should run at 1833mhz, with a 166mhz fsb and a 11x multiplier. your sempron is running at a 100mhz fsb, which gives you 11x100, for 1100mhz.

so, go into your bios, and increase the front side bus to 166mhz, and your chip should post as an athlon xp 2500+, or an athlon 1833mhz. youll still need the bios update to have it show up as a sempron 2600+.

while youre at it, make sure the cpu's voltage is properly set as well. for the 2600+ it should be 1.65v.

Try update BIOS. Give us more information about your mobo. Manufacturer, model and if you can version. I think your mobo support Sempron but (the same as skold says) you must only change FSB to 166 standard.
