hi to all,

after a lot of work it is ready. month ago i found a ibm model 50z on
the garbage with original PS/2 monitor and keyboard. this computer
system was really in bad condition and did not work. i had to repair the
monitor, demounted the complete keyboard and keys to get all the dirt
off, a dead mouse inside the computer destroyed some ciruits on the main
board. under the body of the mouse was all oxydised.
but now all works great and i have now a great restored IBM system.

btw, the same system was my first pc i had Smile, and i love it, especially
the ceramic intel 286 in the socket. later systems of the same model
used the plcc 286 because it was cheaper.

here the link:

thanks for looking.

Yea A very nice restoration, looks good as new to me. How did you fix all the corrosion and other defects, or did you just find another M/B that was in good shape for it, Also the chips look like NOS and not twenty years old.

very nice restore job you have done Very Happy

i have a 8530 & just got a 8550 Z and was thinking of modifying one from PLCC to PGA.
After seeing the 8550 Z came also in PGA.. i will look at changing that one over. Smile

must of been only a few made in PGA & not necessarily early ones, as my board is a whole year earlier & has some hand wiring for missing traces on the board

EDIT >> my unit was produced at least a month before the 8550 was released (June 2nd 1988) Very Happy

good additional info http://www.ibmmuseum.com/OhlandL/8550/188-080.txt

i used a lot of different chemikals to solve the corrosion. defects i
soldered.
for the final cleaning for the mainboard and the case with it's parts i use
a special bath and toilet cleaner *lol*, this cleaner is absolutely great,
and all parts looks like new after cleaning. printings will be not destroyed.
on the link here you can see a cleaning tutorial of my website, in part2
you can see the manufacturer of the cleaner.
