Is this an auction thread? I didnt think we did auctions here in the forum because they suck ass, and for other reasons as well. We have eBay for that.
Sealed bid is better. Just ask people to pm you their highest bid and then you sell to the highest offer. - without pm'ing bidders back asking them to bid more. Posting the current bid price has the same effect. |

Yes it is.
I discussed it with CPUShack before I procedded with this and recieved his OK to do this.
I do it this way because I want the people here on the forum to have the chip, not the people on Fleabay. The members here buy my chips not the ones on Fleabay and they should have the sole right to have these chips. |

But if we have 1 moderator OK, and 1 mod NOK for this, I think that Gennadiy should give his opinion. |
If this were a silent auction then I would agree with you that the price should not be shown. But it is a public auction and the bidders deserve the right to know the current price.
Only time I have done this before is with the C4004. And that was because there was no price history to work off of. With this being a unique chip I feel it only righ to do it this way so every one will have a chance at the chip. The auction on the C4004 was held without incident in a professional manner. This one will be held in the same fashion. If the moderators want to make a decision to end this bid I will do so with no complaint. |

The bid is posted publicly for many reasons,
1 is so that the person having the highest bid knows whether they are still in the lead
2 is so that anyone wishing to bid on it,knows what they will have to beat to be high bidder,
3 so that barrens PM inbox is not flodded with bids that are lower than what the current bid is
There is no rule that stipulates he cannot do this.If you can find any rules that he is breaking I will humbly apologize. But until then we need to keep this thread focused on the auction, thats what its for.Good luck everyone. _________________ Everything that is gold, doesn't always glitter. |

I remeber seeing this done a couple of times already, as long as the high bidders name is not posted its ok to do.
However I have done the same thing as Jac has before and thats to take the offers by pm and just let the highest offer take it after two or three days without posting the price in the forum at all. To me that takes the auction feeling out of the deal. This way is pretty much like bidding on Ebay without the ability to snipe it at the last second. _________________ "The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once." A.E.

well.. announcing bids doesnt tell any potential bidders anything other than the minimum price you are expecting to be beat. It is a form of price control and doesnt necessarily reflect the value of the item ( i.e. the price someone is prepared to pay at this time )
if I see an item and I am asked to make a bid I will email the value I am prepared to pay. I do not want to see bids bids bids, thereby driving the price up and drawing out a small scale bidding war. That is what happens on ebay..
and as for ebay, there is nothing wrong with it*, almost everyone here buys and many have sold through ebay, so I dont get the double talk.
*other than a system to protect buyers, for which the seller has to pay a handsome 10-20% or so ( w/ paypal).
As for flooding inbox.. hit delete. There are not that many active forum members here. Selling remarked D4004 was not a problem for me. |
