From 1st Nov, importing goods whose value is more than 50RMB (about $7) will have to pay tax which was 500RMB (about $70) before.

This really sucks!

I have greatly reduce purchasing chips from abroad recently. so this has not-so-great impact on me. except awaiting only one parcel from Qwerty.

Does Taiwan and Hong Kong count as abroad?
Any differences if the item is new, used, historical, etc.?

goods from Taiwan and Hong Kong will be inspected by customs as well.
so they are not the exception.
I dont think there is differences for new, used and historical.

This really sucks!

IMHO there is a solution to the problem - let's declare everything as a $7 gift! Wink

I hope that you get the parcel before the 1st of November - I've sent it more than one week ago!

Time to move to North Am. or Europe Smile

Or probably to Ukraine Smile
I pay nothing up to 200 EUR parcels. (and only about 1% of my parcels were inspected (usually from CPUShack. They are big Smile ))
And if you speak Chinese... here in Ukraine you will get a good job. imho at $2000 and higher.

Your government internally named this "forcing domestic economy at the costs of
cosmopolitan citizens and uncomfortable people with broad interests who don`t
like the wares we have in China".... Confused

Well, the EU removed the lower limit for VAT exemption from outside of EU, which means that now everything's getting 25% extra, plus a handling fee of appx US$ 20. Hopefully they will treat vintage computer stuff as it's commercial value, ie worthless and not it's collection value, or even worse, a price lookup on eBay ..
