If BIOS supports dual-core, than you don't have to replace it with single core. Unfortunately, it's not possible to tell if the BIOS supports dual-core or not.
Maximum FSB frequency is limited by the chipset. If you have 945GML then it's 667 MHz, and the 940GML has maximum 533 MHz FSB.

OK in Everest it tells me the chipset is Mobile Intel Calistoga-GML i940/i943 Posting screenshot. I haven't looked at youi bios link yet but I have Pheonix V1.9 updated 1-12-09. It was done at Toshiba where they turned on my lojack and won't turn it off unless I pay them. Absolute tells me they cannot find my machine online.
Here's a partial shot of the chipset window in everest. |

I saw some guy had gotten a T7200 or T7300 to work o a A135-S4666 or something like it but I think thats a completekly different mobo. I think he was on CPU world getting advice too.
Here's the page; http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12837
It looks like the same chipset but I'm unsure of the mobo |

According to Intel 945 chipset datasheet, 943/940GML supports only 533 FSB. The 940GML doesn't support dual-channel memory, so your chipset is 943GML. I have no idea if the datasheet is up to date or not. As I said T5200 and T2450 should work, and, if you decide to try processors with 667 MHz FSB then make sure you can return then if they don't work.

Here's the other half of the chipset info from Everest.
It says something about GMA 950
The Intel chipset info only has 940GML not 943GML info. |

I found the data sheet and you are once again correct Sir.
I will look for a larger 533FSB cpu judt to see if it will make this thing faster. |

I just found this page; http://ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=24679 and the Celeron M450 seems like it would be faster with the 1M cache, 2Ghz, 533FSB
What do you think Gennadiy am I missing something? |

| I've figured it out the 450 has 32bit instruction set the 520-530 has 64 bit instruction set. That's the difference I found. |

I looked at the T5200 core duo 1.6GHz L2 2MB 533FSB and T2450 core duo 2GHz L2 2MB 533FSB and its the same kind of difference, the T5200 has a 64 bit instruction and the T2450 has a 32 bit instruction.
Which one seems best to you?
I have a 32 bit system Vista Home Basic |

I think the T2450 will be a bit faster than the T5200, but not much because the T5200 is based on more efficient microarhictecture.

Just realized I don't have any Thermal Paste. Does anyone have a recomendation?
I'm guessing its six of one half a dozen of the other.
Nevermiond I went with Arctic Silver AA-1.75G R on New Egg 3 day delivery.
Expect a report about success or failure of the T2450 installation and bootup by 9-16-10
Thanks for the help Gennadiy |
