So yes, I still need to scan the K6's. They will be the end of me.

But despite me, today by complete fluke I found in a computer my elusive "White Whale"... I thought I'd never see one again, maybe I had imagined it...

Then I lifted off the heatsink, wiped the grease and... gasp!

They do exist! So the 4 I've seen, always have been in "Gateway Performance 1300" mid-towers. I guess Intel made gateway a deal for dumping these early P4's.

But yea, I had to post this. I wish the brown showed up a little better, but it's definitely dark brown.

Not to mention the ugliest... I don't like cpu's with interposers.

lol, well I've found 1.3Ghz P4's before, but only 4 that have had the brown cpu substrate. Is this common for the early p4's?

holy cow, has it really been that long? Haven't forgotten about this thread... just .. gez, time sure gets away from me.

The K6's. WILL BE scanned. Lol. I'm going to break down and just buy a friggin' parallel port card to use the faithful scanner. Honestly and sadly, that's all that'd been keeping me away.

Lately I've gone through a ton of random Pentium II/III slot 1 era stuff. Also have a pentium 3 celeron tualatin for the scans. Nothing rare I'm sure but hey, it's all fun.

But yes... ugh sorry to be totally off the ball. Hopefully will return with more scans soonish.

Oh, and viili. Hehe that's the spirit! I always found it funky how on that era Celerons how rectangular they looked. And for some reason those, and the black socket 7 intel chips (organic PGA? is that even right name?) I always laughed since they reminded me of the "Submission & Bondage black leather editions" of processors.

Which yea... errr, probably marks me or something.

300Mhz Mendocino? I think I was still nursing Socket 7 during this era as the cheap K6 overclocking pulled me in. Do you happen to know what this came out of? I can only guess some OEM box? Still a fun find!

I finally got a PCI parallel card. Woot for tax money Rolling Eyes

So my infamous quest to scan the K6's shall no longer be thwarted by lack of image acquisition!

Well I finally lucked out and have a "real" job again Laughing No more 3rd shift at Wal-Mart... which since they NEVER close for holidays (except Christmas Day) meant no free time. Ever. So hopefully now with a "normal" job that isn't relentless I can get back to posting pics here!

I'm so happy icon_peace

The K6's will be scanned lidless, I swear it!

And naturally, the parallel port add-in card. Works awesome... except when you reboot. If you restart the computer with the scanner plugged in it blue screens. No biggie I know but yeiish.. Rolling Eyes

But yes, I have a backlog of some chips to scan, but I'm now on "death oath" mode to get the accursed K6 scans.... Very Happy

I've got a few chips on backlog. Socket S1 Sempron 3500 and a Turion X2 TL60. Also a green socket A Athlon XP 2100 Palomino. Isn't that like the "last of the Pallies" ?

As always, nothing special, but every chip gets it's day!

I feel pretty guilty. Nearly a year and I still haven't gotten any scans in. And I'm here posting on what SHOULD have been some triumphant lidless K6-2/2+/III/III+ scans... except yet again, the PCI Parallel card and my faithful ScanJet 5100C have been feuding for the past weeks. Yes - I need to get my (insert profanity here) together and just make a scan station. Real Life just needs to halt it's happy butt and let me get some fun stuff done!

It's so aggravating because this is something that could be sorted out in a day, given all the random hardware and resources just laying in piles here. I just haven't had a "day off" for myself in that long. How ridiculous!

However on a great note... with my new job there is light at the end of the tunnel. So much better when you can truly move toward the "WHEN" rather than the "IF!"

... anyways. I fully encourage others who would like to post random chip pics here, or another thread please do! I've dropped the ball too many times. It's bad when you're necroposting your own thread to tell everyone "yea, (no content) and by the way! I still suck at not getting anything new up."

Of course I write all this, and haven't actually searched the forum. Maybe there already is a fun chip pic/scan thread! Rejoice!

--- random personal to bore...

Getting somewhat more settled into my new job. Been pretty awesome so far. Hopefully another month (yea yea... MORE delay argh) and I can start "getting into the groove" and have some time there for things like... scanning chips! =D

Much delay here for past 3 months is getting "caught up" on bills/house maintenance/ other stupid things I had to lag/roll for the past 2 years. At least now I can actually get ahead on things given time. Sorry getting too blathery...

---

Stuff that might be interesting:

Got my hands on a Pentium4 3.06 HT (533bus). Probably common as dirt (SL6S5), but I'm excited to try it out on an old Asus P4P800 Deluxe I was given ages ago. I hope the board still works!

Ironically I bet the 2.8Ghz P4 Celeron I swapped for it (northwood core 400fsb) is some rarer chip. I can try and get some scans of it if it happens to be one with little documentation.

There's happens to be a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz (533) SL6QB in the board now... getting the scanning urge =D

Maybe the ScanJet 5100C will work with my machine at work... I'd do it for ya'll, I'm tired of missing these opportunities to Scan Random Chips (tm)!

The socket S1 Turion x2 TL60... when I finally cleaned the thermal paste off of the extracted chip... It has a big chunk broken out of it! It's weird... it's not a classic "edge crush" like a badly mounted heatsink. It looks like it took a "point impact" somehow? Need to scan that, definitely....

Also got to see a random Pentium 133 Mhz. Yea, I mention it because I for sure checked the Pentium Timeline Project. Unfortunately it wasn't a "oldest/newest" chip.

But thanks everyone for the support over the past years (wow, that long?). While as always I think I'll get some pics tomorrow, lets hope I can squeeze out a more productive post before October!
