Hello,

I recieved a bunch of these CPU's from a friend and was wondering if anyone could help identify what type of AMD CPU's these are. I believe they are engineering samples so I was unable to lookup any of the part #'s. The chips read:

AMD
2S161800T8E21
VCAAD CA
3854
ES
1.05V

Thanks,

Mike

a socket C32 Opteron

most likely an early low power 2-Way 1800MHz from the 4100 series (unknown if quad or six core)

can you read the package number on the PCB as it may be an earlier socket C32 Opteron that never went into production

very nice find mate Very Happy

Hi Neon_WA,

Thanks for the info.

>can you read the package number on the PCB as it may be an earlier socket C32 Opteron that never went into production

The only number on the PCB is 30398

I have 8 of these, if anyone is interested in purchasing one, make me an offer via PM.

Thanks!

It is an AMD Opteron engineering sample.

Likely an early Opteron 6100 series (Magny-Cours):

octocore ( 8 ) with 12 MB L3 cache
socket G34
1600 MHz

Hi, can you advise if the information you have on the AMD eng sample (on eBay) is from testing, documentation with chips or just a guess Smile

It will help with building up info on AMD engineering samples... cos sometimes they are a pain to decipher Laughing

The information that I provided is a guess based on the part number. I think we have the Opteron ES part numbers partially decoded.

2S161800T8E21

2S = 2-way server ??
16 = 1600 MHz
1 (this digit is usually 0 or 1, not sure what it means)
8 = 8-way ??
00
T = socket G34 (deduced by comparison to production part numbers)
8 = 8 core (deduced by comparison to production part numbers)
E = 12 MB L3 (deduced by comparison to production part numbers)
21 = revision ??

So far the only socket G34 processors are Opteron 6100 series Magny Cours. These can be 8 or 12 core, and are all capable of at least 4-way operation (maybe also 8-way, I am not sure).
I am unsure if 2S designates a 2-way server part, or if it means something else like second generation of engineering samples.
Maybe the 6th digit indicates maximum # of processor per box, 8 in the part number above. The 3rd generation Opteron ES part numbers seen so far have either 1 or 8 in the 6th digit.

It was written in marker on the CPU. I was told that these CPU's were tested briefly then pulled and not much else unfortunately.

I have sold out of these CPU's, thanks to everyone who purchased one. I have four more which I believe are 12-core models, two are 2ghz samples and are on Ebay

the other two I believe to be 1.6ghz samples and I'm selling for $100 each, send me a PM if interested.
