I started to use snipe service about one month ago because I dont have enough time to stay on eBay. It helps me concentrate on other things. The problem with my snipe service is that the server place snipe usually about 9 or 10 seconds before auction ends, still too early for serious bidders. I got to consider snipe.pl Smile . I do manual snipe when I was not occupied. It was fun. Cool

This is usually how I snipe (when I have time to do it), and it's very rare when previous bidder overbids me again. Don't forget that some people bid "just in case" in the last few seconds even if they seem to be winning the auction. At least I always do this if I placed small bid in advance and nobody outbid me - I snipe on the auction I'm winning Smile

I always use manual sniping as this gives you a real kick when you win something you really want.

Another reason for sniping is that for USA bidders one can search for auctions by bidder (ebay protects European bidders from being searched on due to privacy law). So after someone has identified you as a fellow chip collector, they can search for all auctions you are bidding on, which can lead them to auctions they would not otherwise find (or require more work to find). I have got my best deals on auctions where the auction lister does not use likely search keywords in the auction title and so does not attract as much interest in the auction. Of course, if you only bid in the last seconds you will never lead a competing bidder to an active auction (only ended auctions).

Also I recently put in a bid early and had my high bid revealed by someone that posts on this website. They entered super high bid and then retracted the bid, thus exposing to them what my high bid was. Ebay displays the number of bid retractions for a bidder in feedback, and sure enough, the bidder had what I would consider an excessive number of bid retractions. I considered reporting to ebay but did not want to cause trouble for someone else here at CPU-World. Now I only bid early if I know I will not be available to snipe in person.

I would try one of the sniping services, but I am finding that ebay is the most expensive way to add to the collection and it has been good for my pocket book to not win as many auctions. A good friend of mine, proud of his thrifty (i.e cheap) shopping habits says "anyone can pay retail".

I put about 3-4 seconds to end of auction. For Allegro.pl it is good time, but on eBay where are more bidders sometimes time must be longer.

Won a mobile P2-300PE soldered on Socket370 adapter today, 0 bids before my bid (12s before closing). Got it for 1 euro, I'm very happy Smile

The description wqasn't very informative, but I asked the seller that gave codes off the CPU, was a SL32R.

sniping makes you feel your heartbeat!

Or the other way: Give your maximum bid early and hit the reload-button at the end again and again...
