|
|
| I have a ceramic boxed Pentium 233mmx with factory heatsink and fan. I thought that there were no ceramic 233s, only PPGA ones. Also, the text on the heatsink does not have the speed indicated anywhere and on the underside of the CPU is the text Pentium w/mmx tech, which none of my other ceramic Pentium MMX cpus have. But the ship has '233' in the corner that look legit. Is this a real chip or a pretty good fake? |

The printing on top does not look like a Intel print. Its a different font, its to white and from what i have seen it should have the ICOMP rating. And according to Intel it should be in plastic package not ceramic.
This is mine:
It could be from the same guys as hugos fake:

the answer is behind the heatsink, just remove it
I would say there is 99.9% possibility it is a fake . _________________ My vintage CPU collection:www.cpumuseum.com

lol...nice man...
ok about fakes...im try to understand some things...
why may this chip is a fake?
i mean for what reason paint this chip like an 80l286...is a real cpu but change the markings for speed to thief some customer for example...
or this re-marking made now from cpu crappers to shell them out simple chips in this package for example like an cpu but the chip is different?
what is the "philosophy" behind fakes?
sorry for long post and if i misunderstood..my Eng is terrible! |

Fakes like with the Pentium are done when the chip was new. You buy a 200 MHz chip for $300 and resell it for $600 as a 233. Perhaps it not much money, but if you put it in system and sell 5000 its a profit of $150000 (minus work of course) _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. Digging up one of my first threads!
Among my recent finds were two Pentium 233MMX chips - and they were both fake! One was the same as the one at the top of this thread (I've found 4 or 5 of these on kerbsides now) and the other is a much poorer quality fake. The ceramic is obviously ground down, the heatsink is glued on crooked and the original sspec was not changed!

| The 233 is in a different position on all 3 chips. |
