|
|
I added new page, that shows recently completed auctions:
http://www.cpu-world.com/cgi-bin/BrowseEAuctions.pl
That's pretty much what we had going in the VICCA forum, but on completely new level. There are two types of accesses for this page:
- Public access. Individual auction pages shows the manufacturer, family, part number, title, price, the date when the auction ended, and a link to the auction. Main page allows users to filter results by manufacturer, family and part number. The page will only show recent (no more than a month old or two months old) auctions. Essentially, it will provide the same data as can be found on eBay, but with some additional filtering capabilities.
- Access by CPU collectors. In addition to filtering, main page allows collectors to search for specific seller. Individual auction pages show more auction information, including pictures. There won't be one or two months limit, i.e. in a year collectors will see all data for the year.
Currently all forum members can have full access to the data, and submit the data. This is not a big deal as there is not much data in the database.
Eventually, it will be limited only to VICCA users.
Now about submissions. Manual data submissions take too much time, so I tried to simplify it. In most cases, to submit the auction you will need to provide an item number, and then optionally fill the manufacturer, family and part number (this step is recommended for filtering to work). The rest will be done by the submission page. Sometimes it may miss some information, in which case you'll have to enter it manually. Sometimes images has to be uploaded manually (this is when images are not hosted by eBay).
So, if you have any completed auctions for old and/or rare chips that you want to submit please do. Feel free to add auctions not just for Intel 4004/8008/etc, but for other old CPU families, and more recent rare chips (samples).
If you encounter any problem, like it can't determine the price, or shipping, PM me the item number. Please note that this is only the first cut, and more stuff will be added in the future - perhaps, search in the title, guessing manufacturer and family from part number, and others. It'd be also interesting to add some price charts.

Nice!
Since i have been doing this on chipdb.org since 2007 i may have some historical data to add to your database.
My lists where removed a while ago since i could not solve the access part to non collectors, but i have tried to still collect data. For example, i have end price on about 30 C4004 from late 2007 if you want to make historical statistics. How has the price on a 4004 developed for example?
I have also saved the main image from the auctions to tell what condition the chip are in, in relation to its end price.
If its sounds interesting, PM me.
Edit: In total there are about 500 records. _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. Now over 6000 different chips in the database. |

Seems to work nice and easy, Great Job as usual. I would have been tracking many more chips for us in the old vicca threads but its a huge amount of stuff to keep track of, And this pretty much takes care of the hassle of it all. Thanks. I will continue to track even more chips now and add them in it as we go along.
For the heck of it I tried to submit one that was already submitted and it gives the error code of it being a duplicate, but its a bit confusing when you see it, is there a way to just make the error code say somthing like Duplicate submission or somthing blatently easy to recognise? This is a very minor thing but I am just curious. _________________ "The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once." A.E. |

I'll try to fix it today.

I've made a few changes to the pages. The auction submission script now displays an error if the auction was already submitted. Getting images, not hosted on eBay site, now works. Public access is now limited to two months, i.e. auctions, that ended more than two months ago, will not be displayed if you're not a forum member. The submission page should also be a bit better at grabbing the auction price.

Wow way to go , This is going to turn out I think to be a huge asset to the collecting community. Real time prices, for a giant number of chips. I also noticed a board and a manual in the listings, thats an interesting aspect for it too. _________________ "The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once." A.E. |

Public pages contain the auction title, and no auction text or images. Images are only displayed to collectors, and those are currently defined as all forum users, but eventually will be limited to VICCA group of users.

I added new field "Items in the lot". This should be useful for estimating item price for lots that include more than one item. I also fixed price sorting issue on the browse page.

There was another update to the auction submission page. It is now possible to add auctions that, for some reason, cannot be retrieved by the submission script. For these pages you will need to enter information manually, but it could be worth to do it for really interesting auctions. I also tweaked the page so that price identification is now slightly better. And the last, but not the least feature - the submission page now has "Guess" button, which will guess manufacturer, family and part number from the auction title, and fill it for you.
