|
|
I have a Dell PII/266/66 bus 440FX chipset with 128 MB RAM...I just bought this machine from a friend for $40. I want to upgrade the CPU to the max this board will take. Can anyone tell me what the max CPU is that I can get for this brd?
Plan on using this machine as a Linux box for my MP3's.
Appreciate your help.

Are you sure have Intel 440FX chipset ? That version was only on mainboards with Socket 8. You have Slot 1 so I think that is 440 LX. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

Well, I went by the specs for this machine at Dells website, so maybe that info is incorrect. I have the cover off and looked at the chipset and on the one chip I see this:
SB823713SB
L7183050
SU1093
Model # of brd --00054170-12461-76R-03Z7 Rev A00
Does this help? Not sure what other numbers would matter on the brd.

If I well remember, first PIIs worked with FX chipset, because LX wasn't available. |

Thanks for your help. I did buy a PII 333 CPU on EBAY, someone said that the 333 is the fastest CPU for a 66 FSB system brd. So that's what I got.
Thanks |

The 440FX was indeed the first PII chipset. I sold several very, very expensive systems with Intel Providence motherboards in them and PII266s. I am an IPI (Intel Product Integrator) and my company is a member of the 'Intel Inside' scheme. The used to send us all the prototypes back then, ES PIIs etc. Happy days.....
The 440FX was non AGP and Mode 4 HDD support if i remember correctly. Who would pay £900 for the board and chip even then and not get AGP?? |
