OMG my computer is pissing me off. It has been processing slowly and everything has been freezing for a couple seconds all the time. So I click alt-ctrl-del to see what program causes this problem. It says that the "System" uses around 97% of the CPU. Well, so I format my whole computer and install the windows again. Then I install a anti-virus software with firewall and scan the whole computer after the installation. However, without connecting to the network, this problem still exists once I open up my computer. What's wrong with it? I don't think this problem has anything to do with virus.

first of all, if you mean 'system idle process', the percentage listed there is what ISNT being used. so having it around 97% is a good thing.

second, youll need to give more info if you want help. have you updated your bios? what cpu? what motherboard? whats the cpu clocked at when it posts? how much ram? whats the ram clocked at? are your harddrives in PIO mode?

also i highly doubt this has anything to do with your cpu. what reason do you have to blame one component over all the others?

I have a box on my desk at work right now having that same problem. If I understand correctly, the system process takes 100% of the CPU time (or close to it) constantly, even after a fresh install.

This is not a virus problem. As near as I can tell, either the motherboard or CPU is at fault, and as of yet I have not been able to determine a fix besides replacing them both (we only have one of this particular system, and thus no parts to test with for it, short of drives and memory).

This particular box started to have this problem after a PSU failure, so I have a sneaking suspicion that it's motherboard related.
